Abstract

Bamboo (Poaceae) played an important ecological and economic role in tropical regions, including Indonesia. As a Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK), Tahura Sultan Adam Mandiangin served a strategic role in education, research, and forest resource management; however, the availability of scientific data on bamboo diversity in this area remained limited. This study aimed to inventory and describe the bamboo species in KHDTK Tahura Sultan Adam Mandiangin to provide a baseline for forest management and the development of biology learning resources. The study employed a descriptive-explorative approach with a purposive sampling technique. Observations focused on open habitats and riverbanks at an elevation of 74–75 m above sea level, considered potential bamboo growth habitats. Species identification was conducted based on vegetative morphological characters, including culms, sheaths, branching, and leaves. The results showed eight bamboo species from five genera, with Bambusa vulgaris as the most dominant and widely distributed species. The dominance of the genus Bambusa reflected the ecosystem characteristics of the area, which were dominated by open and riparian zones. These findings provided essential baseline data to support KHDTK functions in conservation and the enhancement of biology learning resources based on local potential.
