Evaluasi Aktivitas Antibakteri Foot Sanitizer Spray Minyak Atsiri Sereh Wangi (Cymbopogon citratus sp.) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus

Foot cleansing spray is a topical preparation used to maintain foot hygiene and prevent the growth of odor-causing bacteria, one of which is Staphylococcus aureus. Lemongrass essential oil (Cymbopogon citratus sp.) is known to have antibacterial activity and has the potential to be used in topical formulations. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of foot cleansing spray containing lemongrass essential oil against Staphylococcus aureus. The essential oil was obtained by steam distillation with microwave pretreatment and subsequently formulated into foot cleansing sprays containing 1%, 2%, and 3% essential oil. Antibacterial activity was assessed using the agar diffusion method, with 1% clindamycin as a positive control and the spray base as a negative control. Data were analyzed using the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test after normality testing indicated that the data were not normally distributed. The results showed that all formulations containing lemongrass essential oil produced inhibition zones against Staphylococcus aureus and were classified as having weak antibacterial activity, while the negative control did not show any antibacterial effect. The Kruskal–Wallis test showed no statistically significant difference among the formulations (p > 0.05); however, descriptively, Formula 3 showed the highest mean inhibition zone compared to the other formulations. In conclusion, the lemongrass essential oil-based foot cleansing spray shows potential as a natural antibacterial agent against Staphylococcus aureus, although further optimization of the active ingredient concentration and formulation system is needed to improve its antibacterial effectiveness.
