Hypertension is common in middle age. Hypertension in the elderly increases the risk of heart disease, stroke and death. One of the non-pharmacological therapies that can be given to lower blood pressure is slow deep breathing relaxation and brisk walking exercise. The purpose of the study was to determine the comparison of the effectiveness of slow deep breathing and brisk walking exercise on lowering blood pressure in patients with hypertension. The research plan uses a Pre experimental design with a Two Group and Post test Design approach. The research sample of 56 respondents was taken using simple random sampling technique. The instruments in this study are SOP, stopwatch, observation sheet and sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed using the Independent T-Test test. The results showed that the average blood pressure after being given slow deep breathing was 5 mmHg while the average after being given brisk walking exercise was 9.14 mmHg. The results of statistical tests using Independent T-Test show that the p value = 0.000 (<0.05), it can be concluded that slow deep breathing and brisk walking exercise have differences in the effectiveness of both, of the two interventions it is more effective brisk walking exercise to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients, because brisk walking exercise can stimulate muscle contraction, glycogen breakdown & increase tissue oxygen, reduced resistance, reduce the risk of arterosclerosis formation and lower blood pressure. Slow deep breathing and brisk walking exercise can be used as interventions in an effort to lower blood pressure.
